Do you have an elderly parent in your home and looking for an activity that he or she would enjoy? I found painting for my mother as an outlet. I have known for years because of previous nurses training that hand painting as a creative outlet is very therapeutic.
If your parent or your child has experienced high stress and is suffering from anxiety or other mental or physical problems hand painting is wonderful therapy. And if you are a person in good health consider painting as a wonderful hobby or as a new career.
My mother and I may have started acrylic hand paintings as therapy, but we discovered that we like it. We have been currently specializing in acrylic portrait painting. You may wish to start as we did doing landscapes.
As you are painting your landscaping, you learn how to hold your brush, how to use the brush, and which brushes do best at making trees or flowers. You will learn that each brush has its unique purpose when applying acrylic paint to canvas. We also found that we needed to practice painting on the canvas paper. The canvas texture is very different from smooth practice paper.
If you should make a mistake, do not worry. As many artists say, "it is a happy accident" and they are right. The mistake or accident will turn you into another direction which you did not consider and will do better.
Acrylic painting is very affordable. We did not find it to be expensive. All that is needed to start is a variety of paints or just start with prime colors, brushes, and acrylic canvas paper. Starting with prime colors teaches you how to mix colors and create new colors as needed.
You may experience, as we did, that as you improve you will want better painting tools and purchase paint sets and easel to make painting easier.
My mother has been doing so well that she is now considering selling her paintings. I will do the same. We are currently putting our collection together and will start displaying them at arts and crafts shows.
Acrylic hand paintings may be for you as well. Start drawing and you may be amazed to discover a hidden talent. Take lessons that are needed and before long you too may be selling your works of art.

Hobby Kits and Wholesale - Supplying For the Creative Customer
More and more people are looking for earning opportunities. They are starting to find ways to earn money through their hobbies. Whether they create artwork, paint, or do arts and crafts, these individuals need the supplies or hobby kits, such as electrical kits for ceramic trees, to create their products. The selling of these kits over the internet has begun to increase over recent months and provides yet another profitable enterprise.
If you are looking to sell hobby kits through internet auctions, such as eBay, you will need to find a supplier of these products. Online wholesale companies can provide exactly what you are looking for.
When you are planning your business, you will need to develop a plan. Online selling is not as easy as some may think.
Find your niche. Investigate by looking on eBay to see what crafts or hobby-type products are for sale. You can also go to local flea markets to see what people are selling as well. Then, find the materials and tools to sell to the craftsmen and women. There may already be craft kits, or you could create your own.
Find a wholesaler who either sells the craft kits or the components to make one yourself to sell. If you are looking for multiple items, perhaps a wholesale directory, such as Salehoo.com, could be of some help. The directory can give you a list of wholesale suppliers, along with reviews and forums to share information from other customers of those wholesale sites. Check out the wholesale companies for their reputation, pricing structure, payment terms, and turn around time from order delivery to shipping date.
Speaking of shipping, you may also want to look for a wholesaler who can drop ship your order to your customers. Drop shipping provides the advantage of taking the order from your customer and having the wholesaler ship it directly to the customer. It saves time, money and hassle on your part. However, this also means that you need to be aware of some additional issues, such as the wholesalers return policy in case of damaged goods, whether they will ship smaller orders and the payment terms.
Whether you are just ordering wholesale or looking for a company to drop ship your orders, do your homework. Verify the reputation of the company by looking at online forums or the Better Business Bureau to make sure that the wholesaler is legitimate. Make sure you understand all of the pertinent terms and conditions. Understand your market and most of all, understand your supply chain.

Choosing a Sewing Machine to Make Your Hobby or Craft Enjoyable
If you talk to anyone who sews, they will let you know that the sewing machine is the perfect utilitarian invention of the last 200 years, by far. It lets you make your own clothing, bedding, quilts and decorative items quickly and skillfully. It makes quick work of stitching pieces of material together. With the advancements and improvement to the sewing machine through the years, it has taken on a completely new dimension in crafting.
What was once a fantastic time saving gadget for the women of yesteryear for sewing and mending, the machine is now capable of complex, brilliantly colored embroidery, also many other artistic duties and is a fantastic time saver compared to doing any of these tasks by hand. The possibilities are limitless with all the advancements and computerization of these fun sewing machines.
Since each person has their own ideas and needs for their sewing tasks and projects, there is not the overall "perfect machine" for all. Do you embroider? If not you do not need this option on your machine. Embroidery machines can do some fabulous work, but are also expensive and this option will be useless to you if you are not planning on doing embroidery.
You will need to take the time to do a mental inventory or with pen and paper write out what type of projects you are planning on doing, maybe you have a favorite TV sewing show you watch and you wish to recreate those projects, what types of sewing do they do? Will you be sewing multiple layers of fabric, leather, or other materials? Sewing on buttons, doing quilting squares, doing quilts, sewing carpets, reupholstering, etc., etc. By making a list you will have an excellent idea of the sewing machine that will best suite you.
Are you new to sewing? Do you have friends or does your mother or grandmother sew? Great, ask them if they will show you around their machine and their likes and dislikes of their machine. Does it do everything they want it to do or are there additions they wish they had. Usually someone that is familiar with their machine will be willing to tell you if they like their machine, or if I only knew I would have go a different machine or I should have got the one with such and such attachment that this machine does not have and it can't be added to. Carry your list with you. Would a machine like mom's or grandma's fit your needs, how about your friends? This is a long lasting relationship, so take your time and pick wisely, you will be happy if you do.
Ok, now you should have a good concept of the type of sewing machine you, yourself are looking for. It is now time to get on the internet and start doing your research. Check out the fabric websites, sewing websites, pattern stores, there are many sites out there to glean some great information from. See a machine that you believe meets your needs? Don't buy yet! Type your chosen machine's name and model number into Google or another search engine and now start checking reviews on your machine choice, what are people saying, is it a good machine, or it's just OK, or I would never buy this again.
Take some time and look around numerous review sites. Now is the time to go out and actually take a look at these sewing machines. Get on the phone to your local sewing centers and fabric shops and find the ones that may have the sewing machine you are looking for. Now, go to your local sewing center and fabric stores and look at their selection, make sure to take your list. Stay firm with yourself as to what you are looking for, remember these are stores to SELL merchandise and will try to sell you a higher priced machine with attachments and functions you may never use.
While you're there, ask to try out the machines, there may or may not be sewing machines you just do not like. Is it easy to operate? How easy is the bobbin winder to use, how about ease of inserting the bobbin, does it self-tread the needle? Etc. Test these babies out now if you can. You do not want to purchase a machine that is going to sit and collect dust because you just do not like using it.
Have you found the sewing machine you want? If so now you have a choice to go back home and get back on the internet and check prices for that model or you can purchase the one in the store you were in. Usually you will find a better deal on the internet due to the internet stores do not have to pay the large overhead of renting or owning the store, hiring employees, etc. "lots of expenses" that the internet merchant does not have and can sell the same sewing machine at a lower price.

Craft Project Inspiration: Keep a Creativity Journal and Spark New Craft Ideas
Making craft projects is a popular hobby for lots of reasons: relaxation, self fulfillment, homemade gifts, earning extra money, or simply as a way to honor one's creativity. Even veteran crafters sometimes become unenthused or uninspired about their projects, perhaps putting away their craft supplies for a time.
If your craft ideas seem to have taken a vacation, there are steps you can take to prime the creative pump and get your crafty mojo back. A creativity journal is great inspiration.
What is a Creativity Journal?
A creativity journal is an excellent way to keep your brain primed for creativity. Like any habit, consistently focusing on seeing things in a creative way, on new ideas and new ways of seeing old things, and on noticing your environment will enliven your craft projects.
Use it not only to write down ideas, but to doodle, draw, and color. Think you can't draw? This journal is only for you. Nobody else need see it. Challenge yourself to draw something you see, and though it won't be perfect, your brain will recall it in great detail later. Drawing literally imprints the subject in your mind.
Start Your Creativity Journal
The first step is to find a journal or notebook to keep ideas in. It can be as simple or as fancy as you want, from spiral notebooks to artist Moleskins, but be aware that an expensive notebook with fancy paper causes some people to "freeze up." This relates to a fear of messing up something so nice, although truthfully there are no mistakes with creativity.
Next, put your name, date, and title of your creativity journal on the first page. Make the title simple, quirky, fun, philosophical - but don't sweat over it too much. Some examples: Creativity Unleashed; Melody's Musings; All the Stuff in My Brain; Knock Knock, Who's There; or simply Nancy's Creativity Journal.
Make an Inspiration List
The first entry into your creativity journal is simple: make an inspiration list. Quickly write down all the reasons you love to make craft projects. Make it as long as you can and don't edit yourself.
Example list
I love to create
Making scrapbooks documenting my family makes me feel good and helps me remember all the little moments
Knitting sweaters and scarves is relaxing
Learning a new craft is rewarding and fun
Making handmade gifts for others is fulfilling and makes me happy
Use Your Creativity Journal Consistently
This step can be a little tricky. You don't want to be so regimented in using your creativity journal that it starts to feel like a chore. You also don't want to use it so little that it you forget about it and your purpose goes unmet.
You must find a way to incorporate your journal into your routine. For me, this means I keep it next to my bed and write, doodle, draw, and even color in it before going to sleep. I also carry it with me in my purse, along with some colored pens, and make entries into it when waiting in line.
If you don't want to carry it with you, pick up things you see throughout your day that inspire you, and add them to your journal when at home. Memorabilia such as ticket stubs, paint chips from the hardware store, colorful magazine ads, found items such as bottle tops.
Once your items are added, write notes next to them about where you found them, what inspires you about them, or every unique way you can think of to create a craft out of them.
Review Your Journal
Depending on how often you use your journal, review it every now and then. If you use it every week, review your entries at least once a month. You'll be surprised at the themes you see and the ideas you came up with.
You are your own inspiration. Use your creativity journal to spark ideas for your craft projects. Anytime you feel in need of a creative boost, just look through your journal.
